This is one of the few pines that grows naturally in shade.



Shade tree. Forest tree.

Not salt tolerant of inundation by salty or brackish water.



Low/no tolerance of salty wind or direct salt spray

Birds, squirrels and other animals eat the seeds.

Mesic to hydric slopes, riverine floodplain forests, fertile mixed upland hardwood forests.
